I STILL DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT ILS ENTAILS?

ILS is a comprehensive program aimed at empowering adults with intellectual disabilities to lead self-sufficient lives. Unlike traditional care models, ILS puts the individual at the center of planning and decision-making, ensuring that each service is tailored to their unique needs, preferences, and aspirations. This person-centered approach covers a wide range of supports, from daily living skills like cooking and budgeting to community engagement and employment readiness.

For example, a client interested in cooking might receive one-on-one sessions on meal preparation and kitchen safety, while another aiming for employment could get help with resume writing and interview preparation. ILS also focuses on critical life skills such as understanding public transportation, managing personal health and hygiene, and navigating social relationships. By fostering these skills, ILS not only promotes independence but also enhances the quality of life and community inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities, making it a transformative step towards autonomy.

WHAT DIAGNOSES DO YOU WORK WITH?

Have a Developmental Disability as defined by the State of California Department of Developmental Services (DDS). Consumers must have a documented diagnosis of a developmental disability, such as autism spectrum disorder, epilepsy, or similar conditions. We also accept consumers with a dual diagnosis of anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, Tourette Syndrome, and ADHD.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR SERVICES?

To be eligible, you must have a diagnosed intellectual disability through the State of California Regional Services and be over the age of 18. We accept clients who are ambulatory and either living alone or have a goal of living independently.

CAN I SIGN UP MY ELDERLY PARENT?

Yes, older adults with intellectual disabilities are eligible for our Independent Living Services (ILS), provided their intellectual disability was diagnosed before the age of 18. However, it's important to note that our services are not designed to support individuals with primary needs stemming from age-related conditions such as dementia, severe physical disabilities, or those requiring extensive personal care. Our focus is on empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to achieve greater independence in their daily lives and community engagement.
